Who says there are no open-minded scientists at NASA?
In what I would consider among the most plausible theories to date (when compared to the big bang theory and the creationist one), a prestigious NASA scientist has come forward with the radical suggestion that we are all living inside a giant hologram created by an advanced alien species.
This, of course, echoes the famous movie The Matrix, in which the lead character gradually discovers the human race is trapped inside a giant simulation and is being manipulated by external forces;

This intriguing theory was actually first proposed by Professor Nick Bostrom, from Oxford University and founding Director of the Future of Humanity Institute and of the Programme on the Impacts of Future Technology within the Oxford Martin School.
These guys are not some geeky video game addicted nerds living in their parents bedroom serfing alien conspiracy websites, they are men who take their jobs very seriously and brilliant minds in their own right. Additionally, several other scientists openly subscribe to this belief as well.
Rich Terrile, director of the Centre for Evolutionary Computation and Automated Design at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has also suggested that our “creator” is a computer programmer.
This uncomfortable thought suggests that we could be living in a holographic world and everything around us, is not actually real but a digital “reality” of some sort, again, similar to that of the movie the Matrix;
Rich Terrile, explained his views a bit more to VICE news;
“Right now the fastest NASA supercomputers are cranking away at about double the speed of the human brain… If you make a simple calculation using Moore’s Law [which roughly claims computers double in power every two years], you’ll find that these supercomputers, inside of a decade, will have the ability to compute an entire human lifetime of 80 years – including every thought ever conceived during that lifetime – in the span of a month… In quantum mechanics, particles do not have a definite state unless they’re being observed… Many theorists have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how you explain this…. One explanation is that we’re living within a simulation, seeing what we need to see when we need to see it.”
A lot of the idea of the Matrix and even this theory can be seen in the book Simulacra and Simulation by Jean Baudrillard, which Keanu Reeves was actually told to read before he could play the famous part of “Neo”. Interestingly, this book is selling on Amazon for a whopping$2,000 on Amazon in hardcover format! Fortunately, for those interested though, you can actually pick up a cheaper copy in paper back.
